Entrepreneurship

Freedom + Insanity=
Enterprise

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

I never set out to be an entrepreneur; I just saw opportunities for change and naively went for it. The desire to see “a better way” come to fruition was simply stronger than the inevitable ups and downs. Plus, I have a partner who also dreams big.

I’ve met and worked with some true innovators—Microsoft’s Bill Gates, Activision's Bobby Kotick, and Roku’s Anthony Wood. Frustratingly, most of the remarkable women I met are not as recognizable. Along the way, I learned more than any MBA could ever teach.

Some of my ventures

The Blue Ribbon Sound Works Logo

The Blue Ribbon SoundWorks, Ltd.

Originally called Blue Ribbon Bakery, The Blue Ribbon SoundWorks grew out of my and co-founder’s (and now husband’s) desire to “create a better musical mousetrap.” Computer science, not music, drove the early days of music software and as a result, the results often failed to acknowledge the language and process of the composing musician. We sought to change that and in the process created more than 50 music products found worldwide. Our AudioActive technology caught the eye of Microsoft, who eventually bought it and the company that made it.

Brand Acuity Logo

BrandAcuity

I founded BrandAcuity to serve fledgling entrepreneurs as they set up and expanded their companies. During its existence, I helped grow a number of concerns including a real estate practice, multiple independent school admissions teams, software startups, and non-profits. BrandAcuity ultimately became Mindsight, LLC.

Mindsight Logo

Mindsight, LLC

I created Mindsight to encompass not only the services of BrandAcuity but also to serve as a publishing arm for my technology and creative ventures. In addition to licensing audio technology, Mindsight holds music and print publishing contracts, produces creative content for live and online forums, and provides strategic marketing and business development consulting.

NewBlue Logo

NewBlue, Inc.

When starting NewBlue, my co-founder and I saw tremendous parallels between the music technology field ten years earlier and the growing importance of video. Just as music software had empowered millions to produce music affordable, videos hold the power to do the same. NewBlue empowers both live and post-production with an array of titling, streaming, and effects products.

Media Personalization Using Templates

Systems and methods for media personalization using templates.

Systems and methods for generating edited media. In an embodiment, one or more media assets are received. A theme template comprising one or more entries is retrieved, and the entries are populated with the received media assets to generate one or more composite media products. The media assets may comprise both static and dynamic media assets from multiple data sources. For instance, the dynamic media assets may be user-supplied, whereas the static media assets are retrieved from a structured database and remain the same for a given theme template.
